The 8th Annual Friends of BTR Golf Classic was held on September 21 at the University Club Golf Course in Baton Rouge. The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport (BTR) charity golf tournament raised $10,000 for the Capital Area United Way Foundation.
Teams from 23 companies participated, enjoying a great day of golf, fellowship, food, door prizes and awards. The celebrity guest for the tournament was Southern University Baseball Coach, Roger Cador, who provided autographed baseballs for participants.
The CDM team came in 1st place with a top score of 54. Team members included Ralph Hennessey, Kenny Ferachi, Moe Songy, and Justin Haydel. Taking home the 2nd place award with a score of 56 was the F.G. Sullivan team of Jerry Webber, Doug Furnbaum, Kent Wells, and Tim Palmer. The Louisiana Aircraft team with members Donnie Zachary, Landon Petty, Larry Denison, and Bill Beacon finished with a score of 59, good for 3rd place. For the 5th consecutive year, the GCR team was awarded the last place trophy. GCR team members received a big round of applause as they proudly held up their trophies.
Anthony Marino, Director of Aviation for the Baton Rouge Metro Airport, thanked participants and their companies for contributing time and money to the tournament. "It would not have been possible to raise $10,000 for the Capital Area United Way Foundation without the participation of our business partners,” said Marino.
In addition to The Annual BTR Golf Classic, the Baton Rouge Metro Airport provides sponsorship for a number of area charity events and fundraisers throughout the year.
