Vision Airlines Inaugural Jet Flight Takes Off From Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, April 1, 2011—A Vision Airlines Boeing 737-400 jet made its first appearance at the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport (BTR) today, inaugurating the jet service from BTR to Destin/Ft. Walton Beach with continuing service to Orlando.

The Vision Airlines 737-400 taxied beneath an arch of water as two BTR fire rescue vehicles welcomed the inbound flight with a "water cannon salute.”  Vision Airlines will operate flights three days per week from Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport (BTR) to Northwest Florida Regional Airport (VPS), utilizing a 148-seat Boeing 737-400 aircraft and a 30-seat Dornier 328 aircraft.  The Baton Rouge flights also provide one-stop service to the Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB).  The BTR flights will operation on Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays.

Encompassing the southern sea towns of Destin • Fort Walton Beach • Okaloosa Island, Northwest Florida’s Emerald Coast has something for everyone, from basking on 24 miles of shockingly-white shoreline and teeing off on more than 1,080 challenging holes, to casting lines in the fish-filled waters of the "World’s Luckiest Fishing Village” and watching dolphins dance at the state’s oldest marine park, Florida’s Gulfarium.

"We are pleased that Vision Airlines chose to include Baton Rouge as part of their major expansion into scheduled commercial passenger service,” stated Mayor Pro Tem Mike Walker during his speech for the inaugural flight celebration guests and passengers.  "Securing low-cost airline service has been a priority for our airport; and Vision Airlines now gives us low-fare flights to 2 of our most popular destinations in Destin/Ft. Walton Beach and Orlando—eliminating long layovers in connecting cities.”  Mr. Walker emphasized the importance of supporting the new service, including the impact strong passenger support could have in any decision Vision Airlines may make regarding additional destinations from Baton Rouge.

Clay Meek, Director of Sales & Marketing for Vision Airlines, encouraged area residents to visit the Vision Airlines website or call their reservations center for more information on flights and hotel

packages.  Vision offers discount hotel and rental car packages via their website,, or through their reservations department at 1-877-FLY-A-JET.
