Airfield Layout and Characteristics

Located in the northwest portion of East Baton Rouge Parish about 5 miles north of downtown Baton Rouge the airport is adjacent to US Interstate 110 and surrounded by four lane highways, LA Highway 67; LA Highway 408; and Veterans Boulevard.

The airport passenger terminal is located on the west of the airfield. The area south of the airfield is primarily designated for general aviation use as well as the FAA Control Tower. The east side of the airfield consists of general aviation, Atlantic Southeast Airlines regional jet maintenance facility and the Transportation Security Administration offices. The north side of the airfield is vacant land owned by the airport for future development.

The airport occupies about 1,800 acres of land at an elevation of 70 feet or 21.3 meters above mean sea level. The airport has two runways for air carrier operation: Runway 13/31 is 7,004 feet by 150 feet or 2,135 meters by 45.73 meters paved; Runway 4L/22R is 7,600 feet by 150 feet or 2,316 meters by 45.73 meters paved. The two air carrier runways are situated perpendicular to each other crossing in the center. The airport has an additional shorter runway designed for smaller general aviation aircraft Runway 4R/22L is 3,799 feet by 75 feet or 1,158 meters by 22.87 meters paved. Both air carrier runways, Runway 4L-22R and Runway 13-31, have full length parallel taxiways, Taxiway A and Taxiway B, respectively. Both taxiways are 75 feet wide. Parallel Taxiway E runs full length of Runway 4R-22L and provides access to the south and east general aviation areas. Additional taxiways connect the runways and taxiways to aircraft holding areas at the north end of Taxiway A and at either end of Taxiway E.

The airport has approximately 18 acres of apron available for aircraft parking at the passenger terminal. The apron is currently configured to accommodate aircraft ranging from Boeing 757 to Regional Jets. Currently 13 to 16 aircraft parking positions are available at and around the terminal for aircraft remaining overnight (RON).
