The American Red Cross has set up a base of operations at the Baton Rouge Metro Airport (BTR) to coordinate their Hurricane Laura relief efforts.

Approximately 160 Red Cross volunteers are temporarily being housed at the Emergency/National Disaster Multiplex Facility in the Airport’s Aviation Business Park. The volunteers are being shuttled to and from the Lake Charles region to support the recovery efforts. Emergency response vehicles and other equipment are also being parked and stored at the Multiplex Facility as they are dispatched where needed.

Hotels and shelters are at capacity in the Lake Charles region, necessitating the use of facilities in the Baton Rouge area. The BTR Multiplex has been made available to the Red Cross for staging and overnight accommodations. The 24,000 square-foot Multiplex has facilities designed for housing emergency workers and includes an operations center with meeting rooms and office space. The Multiplex also provides a ramp area for parking large cargo aircraft, and hangar space for relief supply warehousing.
