The Baton Rouge Metro Airport (BTR) has been awarded a grant of $8,413,011 as part of the nearly $10 billion U.S. Transportation Department awards to airports contending with the massive decline in air travel demand due to the coronavirus pandemic. BTR, which has the second highest passenger enplanements among Louisiana airports, received the second highest grant award in the State.As with airports across the country, BTR passenger enplanements are down over 90%. The grant will help offset some of the financial damage from the sudden drop in air travel, and the necessary precautions taken to minimize the spread of COVID-19.

“Representative Garret Graves and the Louisiana delegation continue to work and advocate on behalf of our industry. We are grateful for their support and efforts to obtain this critical funding,” said Mike Edwards, BTR’s Director of Aviation. “The grant will defer the impact of lost revenue resulting from a unprecedented decline in passenger traffic and allow BTR to continue providing essential transportation operations, which remain vital for our community to respond to and recover from the ongoing public health emergency.”
