Baton Rouge, LA (November 20, 2018) – Passenger enplanements, or departing passengers, were up 4.7% at Baton Rouge Metro Airport (BTR) in October over the same month in 2017. Deplanements, or arriving passengers, were up 3.4%. Total passenger volume in October was 76,461. Year-to-date passenger numbers through October are 667,095, up 4%. The BTR passenger numbers are the second highest among Louisiana airports.

Airport officials anticipate a slight increase in Thanksgiving Holiday passenger volume over last year, but emphasized that seats are still available for close-in bookings on all four airlines – American, Delta, United and ViaAir.

Mike Edwards, Director of Aviation, said, “Seats are available on American, Delta, and United from BTR to most destinations across their route networks. And ViaAir still has very reasonable fares to Austin and Orlando for passengers considering last-minute bookings. They can fly to Austin or Orlando on Thursday and return on Sunday.”

Marketing, Public Relations, and Air Service Development Manager, Jim Caldwell, noted the importance of supporting all BTR airlines and flights as the critical factor in generating more service. “Full flights send the message to the airlines that more service is warranted,“said Caldwell. “It is particularly important that the new ViaAir flights to Orlando and Austin are successful.”

The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport is served by the major, network airlines – American, Delta, and United – with hub flights that provide access to destinations worldwide. ViaAir offers nonstop BTR service to Austin and Orlando.

Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport is the second largest airport in the state and upper gulf region based on passenger volume, and currently contributes $1.1 billion and 4,500 jobs to the local economy. While the airport is a major economic generator for the Baton Rouge area, it is administered as an Enterprise Fund, generating its own revenues for operations as opposed to receiving local tax.
