Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport to Hold Mock Disaster Drill Thursday
News Release - Baton Rouge, LA –For Immediate Release, August 8, 2017
Baton Rouge Metro Airport (BTR) will hold an emergency disaster drill on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to test the Airport Emergency Plan in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements. A disaster drill is required by the FAA at least once every three years for all commercial airports. The primary purpose of the drill is to test for emergency preparedness in the event of an actual aircraft incident.
A live crash simulation will take place on a closed portion of the airfield, and will not affect commercial flight operations. The drill objective is to ensure emergency response coordination with applicable mutual aid agencies, including law enforcement, medical resources, firefighting and rescue agencies, principle tenants at the airport, and other interested persons.
The Baton Rouge Metro Airport Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Officers will take the lead role in the mock disaster and coordination of the multi-agency responses. In addition to law enforcement training, BTR Airport Police Officers are trained as professional fire fighters and first-responder EMTs.
The public may see smoke from the drill, and numerous emergency vehicles will converge on the airport as part of the mutual aid from all area responders.
